Echinacea, the wonderful herb BUT!
Well, we know this wonderful herb does a lot of benefits to the body. Echinacea does help boost your immune system and making it difficult for foreign bodies to pass on diseases to your cell.
The herb is even used to treat psoriasis and eczema. Even hemorrhoids, insect bites and skin damage due to sunlight are among the ailments that Echinacea cure.
The purple cone flower (yes, that is the other name of this herb), also treats sore throats, colds and influenza.
Echinacea is also offered in tea bags, in a liquid form or in capsule form.
As in any other herbal preparations, one must be aware of its side effects. (Vendors selling herbal products would always say that there are no side effects because its herbal -Not true!
If you have autoimmune disorders, you should refrain from taking this herb. Some of the ailments that does not sit well with this herb are multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis arthritis, leukemia and lupus.
I am a fan of this herb but I mellowed down after I read that in the study in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics shows that Echinacea may cause stomach infection.
The study said that when people took 1,000 mg of Echinacea for 10 days, the number of bacteria called Bacteroides in their guts doubled.
Bacteroids can cause diarrhea and even raise the risk of colon cancer
Doctors advice that to be safe just limit you intake of the herb for up to eight weeks.
