Heartburn or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder

Heartburn or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD). Yes, that was what the doctor said of my complains the other day.

I had an uneasy feeling the night before. Some sort of chest pain, muscle spasm and shortness of breath. I took an aspirin tablet to help relieve my chest murmurings. I did not have a good sleep. I woke up at 2:30 in the morning and sipped a cup of green tea.

By 7 in the morning I had some palpitations and felt that my blood pressure went up. The shortness of breath was still there. I decided to see a doctor right away. At the hospital, my blood pressure was monitored and yes it went up. After that I underwent an ECG.

My heart was well (Thanks God) and the diagnosis was Heartburn or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD).

I was given three kinds of medications namely: Maalox, Ulcepraz (Pantoprazole) 40mg and Motillium (Domperidone) 10mg.

The doctor said that I avoid fatty foods, chocolate, tomato products, citrus juices, spicy foods, alcohol, softdrinks and caffeine because they can cause heartburn. Well, hours before that incident, I had two cups from Starbucks and before going to bed I took aspirin, which the doctor said also contributed to the acidity. I also hap a cup of green tea.

See! All the factors were there to contribute a heartburn.
