Ginkgo Biloba Will Not Improve Your Memory

Before you smash me with your stacks of journals saying that Ginkgo improves memory, let me qualify my title. Ginkgo Biloba will not improve memory of healthy people but it does improve those with Alzheimer’s.

According to Paul R. Solomon, PhD, Director of the memory clinic at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center: “we found no evidence that ginkgo has any effect on memory or cognitive function.”

In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the researchers found that people who took the so called “smart pill” for 6 weeks did no better on 14 tests of memory, learninbg, concentration and attention than those who took a placebo.

Solomon said that: “There is nothing in our research to justify taking ginkgo.”

Well, if you want to improve your memory, why not just take a nap, a short sleep of say just 10 minutes. Australian researchers did a study of the effects of naps of varying duration and found that the people who took a nap for just 10 minutes concentrated better and had more accurate memories than the rest.
