6 Things You Should Look For In Your Multi-Vitamins

1.Select a multiple vitamin. Your multiple vitamin should have the essential vitamins such as vitamins A, C, D, E, and B’s. While there are vitamins that include calcium, it would be best to have that taken separately. Calcium is large and if it is included in the tablet, there would be less room for the other nutrients.

2. Check the labels. Definitely a must. Select products that put labels in their bottles. In the list of nutrients you can easily see what are the particular vitamins included and the composition. For example, vitamin A (as 100% beta-carotene). Manufacturers who do not put labels in their vitamins may have something to hide.

3. No additives. Look at your vitamin pill. If you notice that it is bright in color, most likely it has food coloring in it. If you have another choice, discard it. If you opt to purchase it, check for the unwanted components.

4. No herbal component. Be careful with this. Some herbs are not to be taken everyday and some are not designed to be taken together with the vitamins. Multi-vitamins are intended to be taken everyday. If you take herbs, have them separately as needed.

5. Little amounts of “other ingredients”. Choose for products that have little amounts of specialty components added, such as MSM. These ingredients are usually beneficial when taken in the right dosage. Adding minimal amounts, however, does not endanger you but it would leave less room for the more important vitamins. It would be better to have them taken in a separate tablet.

6. Tested for potency. While this is not typically shown in the label, it is important to find out from the manufacturer how your vitamin is tested for potency. A method used to test the potency of a vitamin is called high pressure liquid chromatography.

Taking multi-vitamins is a already must in today’s fastfood dominated world. Since you will be taking it for the long term, better check it and look for the things mentioned above.
